this is a 1940's chiffon and lace dress that i bought last year and meant to alter a bit, but kind of forgot, and its been in the back of my closet since. its not a tragic story because i remembered about it again the other day, and i think with a bit of work, and a pair of warm tights, this could be one of my favourite dresses this winter.
here are some of my inspirations. there is something about lace that is just so utterly romantic and wistful. i want me some of that too.

this weekend i received these in the mail. they are probably my new favourite pieces of jewelry in the world ever. they are so incredibly beautifully crafted out of wood and hand painted by love by geneine honey based in australia.
the 'holiday' brooch set. (picturesque landscape postcard included). this is the piece that originally attracted me to the shop, but then i just couldn't leave without...
the 'i wish i was a real girl' necklace (with moving arms and legs, which is a bonus). there is also a boy version. which i now need too.

this is actually an extension of my previous post, a few etsy favourites with pretty novelty prints, for a sort of do-it-yourself mui mui inspired look. the first dress should be mine methinks.
it started when i saw keira knightly wearing this:
(i almost wept)

cut off at the knees.
just the other day i gave away another adorable unworn 'new' dress, because i just couldnt find a way to wear it. the story of my life. for me its very hard to find a new dress that fits. i'm pretty tall you see, and perhaps a little on the prudish side, so i mostly like my dresses to be on, or below my knees. but that is very rarely what sells in the department stores. most often, store bought dresses are mini dresses, which could be lovely too, except on slightly taller girls like me, their length become pretty much indecent. and if i do find something in a shop thats meant to be cut to knee length, on me its just another mini dress. sigh.
so, although technically, vintage dresses that fit should be harder to find, for me, its way way easier. especially dresses from the 30's 40's and 50's. mostly they are longer, and if they happen to be a little big, no worries, just belt it around the waist and it'll look awesome.

i really love this portrait from jenine from the coveted and her hubby. her dress is divine. i follow jenine's blog and although she always looks great, when she wears vintage it really makes my day.
while i'm on couple portraits:

i'm really into the shape of wiggle dresses right now, they make me feel like a real, grown up woman lady. this is one of my favourite dresses, even though it is a size too big, and rather than looking like this...
(which i'm not sure i could manage anyhow) i look a little more dork. which i am fine with by the way. made peace with my dork self long ago.
also, no one wears the dress like joan holloway. but its fun to try.

below is an oldish photograph of the ginger me and my boyfriend, ross. he's really made me feel special today. but then again, he does that everyday. thanks my love.
and thanks so much to everyone who sent me awesome birthday wishes. i love you all. equally.
i've followed jennifer's blog for so long now that i sometimes feel like i know her personally. she's definitely been the most important fashion inspiration for me over the past couple of years. besides her amazing and enviable wardrobe, she also finds the best locations for her shoots. i mean, a friggin steam train!
